Methods of Teaching and Learning English - Direct Method.

This method is a more logical and scientific way of teaching English, as in this method, neither the teacher nor the student, is allowed to use mother tongue. The teacher has to create the atmosphere of the particular lesson in the classroom and he has to show, use, point out or tell about various objects, use charts, pictures, models etc. to explain the lesson. For example, a lesson on letter-writing would be taken in the class, by showing postal-stationery, and stamps, for explaining the words – post card, envelope, inland-letter, stamps etc. He has to take the students to garden, to teach words like leaves, flowers, plants, trees, grass, lawn etc., in teaching through Direct Method.
