Confused Adverbs


Hardly and Hard
Rule: Hardly means scarcely; Hard implies vigorously.
Incorrect Usage: (a) They tried hardly to locate the missing file.
                                (b) He hard ate anything.

Correct Usage: (a) They tried hard to locate the missing file.
                              (b) He hardly ate anything.
