Treatment of Swine Flu

. The recommended drugs for swine flu are oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) & zanamivir

(Relenza®). These drugs are used to treat and/or prevent swine influenza viruses
infection.
• These antiviral drugs are available as pills, liquid or an inhaler, that fights the swine flu by
keeping it from reproducing/ multiplying in body.
• Use of antiviral drugs make illness milder and make you feel better faster. They may
also prevent serious swine flu complications.
• Antiviral drugs work better when started soon after getting infected with swine flu (within
2 days of symptoms ).

Vaccine for Swine Flu

• Because the virus is new, there is no vaccine available to protect against swine flu.
• Vaccine against swine flu virus H1N1 may take minimum 6-12 months to be produced.
• Seasonal flu vaccine or past flu immunization will not provide protection against swine flu.
